Laveen Students Take Virtual Field Trip

Imagine staring into the eye of a miniature Category 5 hurricane or getting up close with a strand of DNA. The Google Augmented Reality (AR) Pioneer Program visited Laveen Elementary School with tools that allowed students to do just that!
Laveen Elementary students went on AR field trips, using AR technology to place 3D objects in the physical classroom. Students walked all around the objects, got in close to spot details, and stepped back to see the full picture. The Expeditions AR program allowed teachers to bring the world into their classrooms, helping engage students with immersive lessons that aligned with grade level standards.

State Achievement Testing Begins April 9

Between April 9th and April 24th Laveen School District students will participate in state achievement testing.

Students in Grades three through eight will take Arizona’s Measurement of Educational Readiness to Inform Teaching (AzMERIT). The AzMERIT test measures students’ skills in English language arts (ELA) and mathematics. Students in Grades four and eight will continue to take the AIMS science test, in addition to AzMERIT. Students who are enrolled in an Algebra or Geometry class, will also take an AzMERIT end of course (EOC) assessment, in addition to their grade level ELA and mathematics assessments.

School Breakfast Week is March 5-9

National School Breakfast Week is March 5-9. Your child won’t want to miss out on this special event! Laveen’s school cafeterias will be featuring your child’s favorites like breakfast burritos, whole grain donuts, and french toast. Plus, we’ll have special guests helping to serve breakfast. Students who participate in breakfast this week will receive a free 100% fruit slushy at lunch.

4th Annual Laveen Spring Arts Festival is April 6

Join us for the 4th Annual Laveen Spring Arts Festival on April 6. The event will feature numerous arts and crafts vendors, craft activities for children, Laveen student performances, and food. Entrance to the event is free. Tickets will be sold to participate in the activities.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Foundation which provides scholarships to Laveen 8th grade students entering high school and former Laveen students entering college.

The event takes place from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Laveen Education Center Lawn, 5001 W. Dobbins.

Laveen Student Receives “I Can Do It” Award

Congratulations to Laveen School 8th grader Taji Sneed! Taji is the recipient of the Arizona Council for Exceptional Children’s “I Can Do It!” award and was recognized at the February Governing Board meeting. The “I Can Do It!” award recognizes students for their accomplishments in a variety of areas despite their disabilities.

Laveen Students Attend Statewide Youth Conference

Twelve students from Laveen School, a teacher, a counselor, and Dr. Caplinger attended the “Speak Up, Stand Up, and Save a Life” Conference at Grand Canyon University.  This conference focused on mental health issues in schools and how students can stand up and make a difference in the lives of their peers.
