District-wide Summer Hours Begin May 20

Beginning on May 20, all Laveen school and district offices will generally be open Monday – Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. throughout the summer. Please visit the school’s website for individual closings. Our regular Monday – Friday schedule will resume July 22.

All offices will be closed on May 27 for Memorial Day and July 4 for Independence Day.

All schools, except Vista del Sur, will be holding extended registration hours on July 23 from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Children Eat Free All Summer

School might be out, but Laveen schools are serving breakfast and lunch to all kids all summer!

Children 18 years and younger may join us throughout the summer for nutritious breakfast and lunch. All kids’ meals are free. Breakfast and Lunch will be served at five of our school sites. New for 2019, we will also be serving an afternoon snack and dinner at the Playa Margarita Community Center, 3615 W. Roeser.

There are no income requirements and you do not need to register. Children do not need to be enrolled in a Laveen school to participate.

The summer meal program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Laveen Team Places At State Engineering Competition

Laveen School’s MESA (Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement) team placed in the  AZMESA Day state competition. Held at the University of Arizona, this annual statewide competition challenges teams to solve problems through engineering and design.

Laveen’s team took 3rd Place in the Tape and Paper Canoe challenge and 4th Place in the Cargo Bottle Rocket challenge.

Additionally, 6th grade student Haden Morales was named Student of the Year.

Haden Morales Named Student of the Year by STEM Program

Laveen School 6th grade student, Haden Morales, has been named Student of the Year by AZMESA (Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement),  a school based outreach program designed to increase access to Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) pathways and encourage college readiness.

Morales was a member of Laveen School’s MESA team which competed at AZMESA Day at the University of Arizona. This annual statewide competition challenges teams to solve problems through engineering and design.

In addition to Morales’s award, the Laveen team  took 3rd and 4th Place in two categories, the Tape and Paper Canoe and Cargo Bottle Rocket.

The Laveen District wants your feedback! Deadline extended to May 11.

The Laveen Elementary School District wants to hear what you have to say about your school and your school district!The district has contracted with Hazard, Young, Attea, and Associates (HYA) as an independent third party to conduct a comprehensive, thorough, and productive community engagement process. The team’s goal is to provide the Laveen District with accurate information identifying and measuring community, parent, student, and staff perceptions of Laveen’s schools.We are asking all members of the Laveen community, whether or not you have children in our schools, to take an online survey.Surveys will close on May 11, 2019.

Laveen 4th graders win Phoenix Suns Grow to Go Challenge

Mr. Wasie’s  4th grade classroom won the “Phoenix Suns Grow to Go Challenge.” They showed the most growth schoolwide on the Galileo assessments from BM1 to BM3.

Everyone in the class received two tickets to a Suns game on March 27 and the ten students that showed the most growth received a basketball and had the opportunity to meet players and get signatures after the game.

Students plant salsa garden with the help of Be Kind.

Students at Laveen School planted a salsa garden earlier this month with the help of “Be Kind.”

Be Kind is a non-profit organization that strives to build a generation of respectful, responsible, healthy, and caring citizens.

Be Kind volunteers led students through a lesson on the importance of maintaining healthy habits as well as learning to appreciate nature and gardening. Then they took the students to the garden area where they helped them plant tomatoes, peppers, cilantro, onions, and basil.

This activity also encouraged the students to work together to prepare the garden.

Prospective Parents: Open Houses Scheduled at Each Laveen School

Here, you will be provided with an overview of the school and a tour of the campus with special emphasis on the school’s signature program.We encourage prospective families to attend and see what makes Laveen schools the right choice for your child.

5th Annual Laveen Spring Arts Festival is April 5

Join us for the 5th Annual Laveen Spring Arts Festival on April 5. The event will feature numerous arts and crafts vendors, craft activities for children, Laveen student performances, and food. Entrance to the event is free. Tickets will be sold to participate in the activities.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Foundation which provides scholarships to Laveen 8th grade students entering high school and former Laveen students entering college.

The event takes place from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Laveen Education Center Lawn, 5001 W. Dobbins.
